We are officially in a mental health era. It is being prioritized more and more every day. However, I have a hot take when it comes to maintaining your mental health:
Listing the positives in life, gratitude simply leads to toxic positivity.
I know. It’s for sure a hot take. The reason is because the negative things in life still mean something. They might not be comfortable, but they are in your life for a reason. To teach a lesson. To open the next door for an opportunity. To share a harsh truth. It ain’t cute, but sometimes it’s gotta happen.
Within the last few months, I learned about something called a glimmer. The idea is simple: it’s a moment that makes your life worth it. It’s the tiny anchors in life that give you hope through all the hard times. I focus my intentions on finding daily glimmers.
These glimmers can be as simple as eating your favorite food, taking that first sip of coffee, hugging your partner, watching your dog bring back the tennis ball, your son reaching for your hand at the playground, or your daughter asking to read a book.
Anything that brings you a sense of joy and calm.
So, let’s make a commitment today: let’s count some daily glimmers!
Keep tabs for a few days then come back and share them with us 💕
- Laurel put on sunglasses, she pointed to them on herself then pointed to my glasses. “Laurel’s glasses, Mama’s glasses” Then we giggled and went nose to nose
- Every time I put Laurel down to bed or a nap I tell her “Mama loves you, Dada loves you, Maisie loves you, Louie loves you, Winnie loves you. We all love you”. I give her multitudes of kisses. Laurel grabs my chin and pulled me in for a kiss.
- While tickling Maisie Laurel comes over to join. We all have a tickle party.
- When Winnie gets excited and comes over, tail wagging, and gives the girls the sweetest, gentlest kiss.
- Every day watching your husband be the best father you can imagine.
- Watching Laurel tickle herself.
- Maisie watching and giggling at Laurel playing.
- Laurel laying on Cabela’s floor with stuffed animals lined up in front of her.
- Laurel insists on wearing her John Lennon sunglasses.
- Laurel finally beginning to say “Louie” and “Winnie” after a long struggle with oral communication.
- Laurel learning to respond “I love you.”
- Every single morning Laurel is excited to go get Maisie up; already best friends.
